New Things

Isaiah 42:5-9

Repetitive acts can cause boredom, especially when the heart is not passionate about the endeavor.

The nation of Israel was hardened to the things of God, chiefly because their allegiance was based primarily on the letter of the law and not the spirit of the law.  Life became very mundane, indeed the repetitive acts had caused the people of God to become ensnared and caged by the sin of formalism.  What they desperately needed, oddly enough, they collectively rejected.

Allow me to introduce to you the Creator of all things, God the Father, of “New Things.”  We have been trained to believe that the Creator relishes in the idea of keeping everything old fashion.  We quote passages such as Malachi 3:6 which says, “I am the LORD, I change not.”  And, Hebrews 13:8, “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.”  Does God, the Creator of all those amazing things we see and enjoy in nature, want us to believe that he is not about new things?  Let’s put it this way, has the Creator finished creating?  I think not!

In the passage quoted earlier, God the Father said, “Look, my earlier predictive oracles have come to pass; now I announce new events.  Before they begin to occur, I reveal them to you” (NET Translation).  God is life, and life cannot be restricted.  Life subdued gives way to death; dear friend, my God is very much alive.  I know that the character of God is unchangeable.  That is, God’s nature or moral fiber remains the same, but His moral code does not limit His ability to do new things.
In Revelation 21:5 John records God as says, “Behold, I make all things new.  And he said unto me, write: for these words are true and faithful.”

Brothers and sisters, we need the creative hand of God to touch our churches today!  We are so outdated we reek of death.  God desires to breath new life back into our places of worship, if only we would let Him do a “new thing.”  Can you envision what could happen if we allowed the Creator to touch the stagnant waters of our lives.  Many of our churches have become so formalistic that we have literally cut God out of our services.  Remember, the sin of formalism can be in a “lively” church as well as a non-emotional church.  I have visited churches that are extremely open in their form of worship, yet if God were to do a “new thing” in their mist they would reject it, simply because it didn’t fit their “style” of worship.  We need the Creator to create something new in us!  We need a real relationship with the God of “NEW THINGS.”

If we continue to travel the road we’re on, we are going to die.  It’s time we wakeup!  Remember, new wine goes into new wine skins.  And don’t forget, “if any man be in Christ, he is a new creation: old things are passed away; behold, ALL THINGS ARE BECOME NEW” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
