Job 14:12 NET, “So man lies down and does not rise; until the heavens are no more, they will not awake nor arise from their sleep.”
The Church is filled with erroneous doctrines. Recently, believers have overflowed the media outlets with the idea that at death we become angels. Some believe this brings comfort to the grieving survivors, adding that their now deceased loved one will be their heavenly guide through this troublesome world.
God cautioned the church that in the last day’s believers would turn from the truth, and receive the toxic teachings of the enemy. Consider the Apostle Paul’s warning to Timothy in 2 Timothy 4:3, 4, NET, “For there will be a time when people will not tolerate sound teaching. Instead, following their own desires, they will accumulate teachers for themselves, because they have an insatiable curiosity to hear new things. They will turn away from hearing the truth, but on the other hand they will turn aside to myths.”
There is very little “Love for the truth” in the Church today. Jesus said, “And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold” (Matthew 24:12). The Apostle Paul understood Christ to mean not only a lack of “natural affection” (2 Tim. 3:3) but also a lack of passion for the truth (2 Thess. 2:10). Because of this mass rejection of truth, God has sent “strong delusions, that they should believe a lie: that they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness” (2 Thess. 2:11, 12).
Unrighteousness, in layman’s terms, can mean anything that is in opposition to the truth. We are breading a scripturally non-conversant people today. Popularity does not create a truth it just broadens the road. Jesus said, “If you continue in my word, then are you my disciples indeed; and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:31, 32). Truth liberates! The traditions and doctrines of man imprison.
God imparted comfort comes when we understand the truth. At death all simply close their eyes and unconsciously wait until the resurrection. Jesus said, “Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation” (John 5:28, 29).
Returning to the words of the Job, “If a man die, shall he live again? All the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come. Thou shalt’ call, and I will answer” (Job 14:14, 15a).
P.S., “by man came death” (I Cor. 15:21); God gives life (1 John 5:11).
